The Space Between Us

The Space Between Us is a staged musical project bringing together Persian music, poetry, and contemporary dance inspired by sama. It explores the invisible bonds that unite us through sound, movement and listening, creating a meeting place where traditions intersect, transform, and give rise to new forms of expression.
The work is carried by the voice and târ of Elham Manouchehri, the santur of Amir Amiri, the double bass of Darius Azar, and the Middle Eastern percussion of Joseph Khoury. The dance and poetry of Tawhida Tanya Evanson extend this exploration, transforming music into movement while making visible the energy that circulates between the artists, the space, and the audience.

At the heart of the project lies a simple question: what happens when we truly take the time to listen? Not only to the music, but also to the silence that surrounds it, the vibrations that prolong each sound, the movement born from rhythm and the presence of the other listeners. In a world marked by constant acceleration, The Space Between Us invites us to slow down and fully inhabit the present moment within a sonic universe that is at once intimate and expansive.
The Space Between Us is an initiative of MA Ensemble, founded by Amir Amiri and Elham Manouchehri, whose artistic practice is grounded in a dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation. The dance and poetry of Tawhida Tanya Evanson extend this exploration, transforming music into movement while making visible the energy that circulates between the artists, the space, and the audience.
